ISBN Thinking About (and Possibly Hoarding) Bookmarks

As a Book Club participant, Planner/Organizer/Journal lover, Mad Plant Labeler, and Cook who can’t survive without her Recipe Tin, I’ve become lovingly dependent on my bookmarks. I might be a die-hard fan of all things digital and staunch supporter of going paperless, but I’ll NEVER let go of my bookmarks. (It’s possible this fad was installed in my brain by my college roomie Jennifer who always wanted MORE BOOKMARKS!)

But don’t think I just accumulate bookmarks for the love of collecting. Bookmarks are SO MUCH more useful than just looking beautiful, or reminding you of something, someone, or somewhere cool, or even saving a page in your favorite best-selling thriller! For starters:

My preferred method of inviting a suspected fellow book nerd to a club meet-up is to leave a bookmark invite on their desk at work. Nothing fancy, just some cool lettering on the back to let them know where the party’s at!

Same is true when presenting a book as, well, a present! A bookmark as a gift tag gets the message across quick - there’s good reading material in here! Or slip the bookmark in with the card or book as a “coupon” - yup, write a promise to lend a preferred novel in the future, or maybe a date to go book shopping sometime soon?

And let’s not be narrow-minded – bookmarks are for journals and planners too! I use colorful bookmarks to mark specific dates or events in my planner. I’ve gotten over highlighting things to draw my attention - let’s be honest, I usually forget which color is for which thing. But pop a bookmark in there and boom - I’m right where I want to be, without any erratic markings to confuse me because yes, I’m easily confused. (Plus, when I really need an erratic marking I can jot it on the back!)😊

As a budding chef with limited improvisational skills, my treasured bookmarks help me find my jumbled Recipe Cards as needed. Since my recipes are no longer arranged alphabetically - I’ve got them organized by protein (don’t ask) – I find them more easily by slipping in a bookmark locator. I can make those ribs crackle and brown by finding their bookmark in short order! (I can’t. get. over. our new food-centric bookmarks.)

This stroke of bookmark genius made me feel so great that I slipped one inside my checkbook, I know, I know, "who still has one of those?" the answer, of course, is me! But I digress, I use my trusty place holders to remind me what bills to pay and when. They organize my receipts in a pinch AND never fail to make me happy - yes, even when paying bills.

And because I’m on a roll (lol) another spot my bookmarks shine is among my plants. Not only do I like to give my green fellas cute names, I also like to remember their species. (AND when I’m feeling super organized, I jot in their care and feeding so my plant-sitter can easily find it!)

Finally, bookmarks are the easiest gifts to mail. Tiny as they are, they usually fit in a card and are the perfect quick, small, inexpensive “hello, I’m thinking of you”. How many other ways can you send such a smile for the price of a stamp??

By now you’re likely thinking either, “She’s got a crazy obsession!” or “She’s right. I need more bookmarks!” If it’s the latter, I'm here to tell you that (possibly due to my constant nagging) we just got in loads of new bookmarks! So, book it on over to the Shop and join me in bookmark heaven.
