OIL PAINTER - SPAIN

Mark Briscoe has loved to draw and paint since he was a kid. He’s had a variety of artistic passions since: eastern lacquered furniture decoration, Chinoiserie, and Rajasthani miniature painting, just to name a few.

In 2001, he moved to Spain with his family where he began experimenting with painting mediums used by old European masters - creating paint textures that have a similar appearance to those used by artists in previous centuries. Mark uses light glazes and oil paint in layers to emphasize impasto brush strokes, giving his work the appearance of movement and animation.

Though Mark compares his style to the post-impressionists, he also notes that his work “moves dangerously close to Van Gogh.” A sentiment we can get behind.
